What is the Ticket to Work program?

The Ticket to Work program is an employment program for individuals currently receiving Social Security disability benefits who are interested in going to work. . Beneficiaries may choose to assign their tickets to an Employment Network (EN) of their choice to obtain employment services, vocational rehabilitation services, or other support services necessary to achieve a vocational (work) goal. The EN, if they accept the ticket, will coordinate and provide appropriate services to help the beneficiary find and maintain employment.

The ultimate goal of the Ticket to Work program is to assist people receiving Social Security disability benefits in reducing their reliance on disability benefits. The Ticket program also seeks to promote increased self-sufficiency and greater independence for people receiving Social Security disability benefits through work.

The "Ticket" is a symbolic document to reflect a person's eligibility to participate in the Ticket to Work Program. You do NOT have to have a physical "Ticket" to participate in the program. We can check your eligibility to participate in the program for you.

Myth Busters

What are the Three Biggest Myths About Social Security Disability Benefits and Work?

  1. If I go back to work, I will automatically lose my Medicare or Medicaid. THIS IS A MYTH!!!
  2. When I go to work, even if I am receiving support from an Employment Network, Social Security will do a medical review of my case and I could lose my beneifts. THIS IS A MYTH!!!
  3. If my benefits checks stop because I go to work and then I have to stop working because of my disability, I will have to reapply for benefits all over again. It took me forever to be approved for benefits in the first place. It does not make sense for me to go to work. THIS IS A MYTH!!!
